Just like a new sourdough recipe, our story has had its fair share of sticky dough, trial and error, and plenty of proofing, shaping and baking along the way.
I’m Chrissi, owner and recipe developer of Chrissi’s Farmhouse Bakery, a family-owned cottage micro bakery in Gardnerville, Nevada, serving our neighbors throughout Carson Valley. We specialize in handcrafted organic sourdough bread, naturally leavened and baked in small batches with quality ingredients, patience and a whole lot of heart.
The food and beverage world has been part of my life for more than 30 years, and my love of cooking, baking and creating recipes has followed me every step of the way.
Most of my recipes begin with intuition and inspiration rather than a cookbook. My superpower? I can taste an idea in my mind before it ever hits the oven.
That creativity eventually found its perfect home in sourdough.
Today, our bakery menu combines traditional artisan bread making with flavors inspired by our farmhouse kitchen. Alongside our signature Gardnerville Sourdough, you'll find rotating savory, sweet and seasonal sourdough varieties, handcrafted focaccia and our Sourdough Armenian Choereg.
The menu may change, but our philosophy doesn't:
Good bread shouldn't be rushed.
Our sourdough is handcrafted right here in Gardnerville, Nevada, using organic flour and our own naturally active sourdough starter.
Each loaf is mixed, fermented, shaped and baked in small batches rather than mass-produced. Long fermentation and natural leavening give our sourdough the crust, crumb and distinctive flavor we want before it ever leaves our kitchen.
We believe some things are worth waiting for.
Sourdough is definitely one of them.
My love of food extends beyond the bread oven. I’m also a Holistic Health Practitioner and Master Herbalist, and my knowledge of herbs has influenced many of the flavors and products we've developed over the years.
From rosemary and basil to sage, garlic and other farmhouse favorites, herbs have a way of finding themselves into both our bakery and our kitchen.
For me, creating food has always been about bringing together flavor, tradition and simple ingredients.
Richard is my rock and our resident “LOAFER.”
After a long and successful career in sales, retirement brought him an unexpected second act: artisan sourdough baker.
Lucky for me.
Richard handles much of the mixing and baking, along with the heavy lifting that comes with running a small cottage bakery. Together, we make, bake, package and prepare our breads for bakery pickups, farmers markets and local events throughout Carson Valley.
But Richard has another very important job.
Talking.
If you've visited us at a farmers market or picked up an order from our Gardnerville bakery, there's a pretty good chance you've met him. He's the friendly face and voice behind many of our markets, events and front-door pickups.
Beyond the bakery, Richard is a devoted husband, proud father and very happy grandfather.
Around here, however, he also answers to:
The King of the Loaves.
What began with a love of food has grown into a little family bakery we're proud to call our own.
Chrissi’s Farmhouse Bakery is about more than making bread. It's about preserving the slow, hands-on process of traditional sourdough baking while creating something distinctly ours, right here in Gardnerville and Carson Valley, Nevada.
Every loaf passes through our hands before it reaches yours.
And after all these years, there is still something pretty wonderful about knowing that something as simple as flour, water, salt and time can bring people together around a table.
Thank you for supporting our little family bakery and allowing us to bake for yours.
